Nonprofit Vine Series Part 1 of 5: Educating Supporters DIY-Style

Back in late 2012, Twitter acquired a 6-second video app named Vine. This app is shareable on both Twitter and Facebook. While initially used by teens and 20-somethings, Vine became the fastest growing app in the world in 2013. Already there are numerous examples of organizations maximizing its potential and your organization should too.

Lowe’s, for example, uses Vine to educate and enlighten its followers.

Educate donors on ways to support your organization, like making a beneficiary designation to an alumni association, in a DIY fashion. With Vine, you can show how easy it is to help your organization and the end result of those actions—such as a warm meal for a family or a state-of-the-art theater on campus.

Let’s Get Started!
  1. Grab your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Download Vine.
  3. Begin shooting objects.
  4. Tap screen to pause recording.
  5. Move objects around and resume recording.
  6. Reorganize a shot within a post at any time to create a rewind effect–a new feature in Vine.

Once you feel comfortable, demonstrate how a supporter’s donation (even writing a check) can support your organization.  We suggest incorporating these videos into your websites and social sites to educate and entertain your supporters.
